Why Supporting Local Businesses is so Important

It seems that everyone roots for small business owners to succeed, but don’t want to actually support them. People complain that local businesses never seem to make it, but spend their money at department stores.

-Supporting a small business is supporting a local family.

When you spend money on a small business, you’re putting food on the table. Not only that, but your helping a child to take dance class or play baseball. You’re helping to pay a mortgage. You’re helping to build a small town.

Sure, department stores seem convenient, but they’re a part of the community like small business are. Spending $20 at a chain store is nothing to them, but spending $20 at a local shop is a tank of gas.

-There are many ways to support small businesses.

Spending money isn’t the only thing that keeps a small business alive. It takes advertisement, social media, word of mouth, etc.

Sharing a Facebook page helps more than some people can ever realize. Taking two seconds to click the “like” button helps us to reach more people.

Just mentioning our business in conversation to someone, can get us a new client/customer.

Of course, using our services or buying our products is important, but it is not the only thing that keeps us going!

-Please appreciate the amount of work it takes to keep a business going.

Running your own business is one of the most challenging things to do. It requires all of your time and energy. It requires long, sleepless nights. It takes using our own money to get it going.

We have to do all the work ourselves. Most of the time, we don’t have employees to do it for us. We ARE the employees. We are the managers, the janitors, the marketing team, and the cashiers… all at once.

We put our blood, sweat, and tears into our business. Having the community support us is our reward.

-Understand why you may be paying a little more.

Sometimes supporting your local small businesses costs a few extra bucks. Here’s why:

We don’t usually by in bulk, so we don’t get the bulk discount.

We have both personal bills and business expenses. Most of what we make has to go back into the business.

Moral of the story: We put so much effort into our businesses. We are so dedicated to it. It’s our baby. Please help us keep our dream alive by supporting it.
